Roatan is BOOMING!
In the past 50 years, Roatan tourism has grown from around 1,000 annual visitors to nearly 2 million. The West end town of Coxen Hole is now fully developed with an international airport, a large cruise port, and enough nearby hotels and restaurants to service these incoming tourists.
The island measures just 37 miles from end to end, with a maximum width from North to South of less than 5 miles. Due to the fact that most development has been limited to the West end, most tourism takes place in and around Coxen Hole.
Tourists and local guides often discourage travel to the East end due to its under-developed roads. While it isn’t exactly EASY, travel time is only about 1 hour to Camp Bay, and once there, you’ll understand why we focus our entire Website on this hidden gem (see transportation tips for travel options)
On a much smaller scale, think Waikiki vs the North Shore of Hawaii, Manhattan vs The Hamptons, or San Francisco vs Carmel.
